The Significance of Vadaimaalai
According to the Ramayana following Lord Rama's victory over Ravana and the subsequent coronation of Lord Rama and Sita Devi in Ayodhya, guests at the coronation received gifts before their departure. But when it came to Sri Anjaneyar, Lord Rama said that Sri Anjaneyar would remain with him always. Overjoyed, Sita Devi made a Vadai Maalai for Sri Anjaneyar and adorned it on him so that he would eat it and be happy. Since then, the practice of adorning Sri Anjaneyar with the Vadai Maalai came into existence. Devotees adorn the Vadai Maalai to please Sri Anjaneyar and receive his blessing for a happy and problem free life.

Devotees can offer garlands made of Vaddai, Tulashi, Vettilai (betal leaf), lime, fruits and vegetables to Anjaneyar. These are considered to be very beneficial in helping devotees to over come their problems.

Ingredients for making Vadai maalai for Anjaneyar:
1 Cup whole urad dhal (Ulundhu)
1 Teaspoon raw rice (Pachai Arisi)
1/2 Teaspoon black pepper (Milagu)
1/2 Teaspoon Jeera
Little perungayam and Salt.

Preparing Vadai
Soak the dhal and the rice for 20 minutes. Then grind them with pepper, perungayam, jeera and salt to a coarse paste without adding water.  Pat them into thin vadai and fry them in refined oil.  Tie all the Vadai as Malai.  Either thread or Vazhai Naar can be used to make Malai.
