Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple
Panchavatee
Located on the Tindivanam-Pondicherry National Highway, is the Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy Temple around His Magnificient Viswaroopa form standing 36 feet tall and 15 feet broad - not seen anywhere else on this earth. Until the 12th June 2003, Shri Anjaneyaswamy in the "Panchamukha Swaroopam" has been present at this site known as Panchavatee Ashram as a "Sookshmadarsee" (unseen or invisible); but now he has chosen to manifest himself to all his devotees in His Grand Glory
Brahmasri Ramani Anna is a well known scholar and devotee of Lord Anjaneya. He was the driving force behind the construction of the Viswaroopa Aadhivyadhihara Bhaktha Anjaneya Temple at Nanganallur, Chennai. He was returning to Chennai after attending a Mahasamprokshanam (Consecretion) at PANRUTI near Pondicherry, when he was invited by Sri S. Santhanam to grace his land. Immediately on stepping on this land, Sri Anna was filled with a deep sense of Divine Joy. A Vision of a magnificent Temple of Lord Anjaneya rose before his eyes. Sri Anna brushed aside this thought but the vision of a Temple for Lord Anjaneya recurred powerfully and persistently.

Sri Anna shared his vision with Sri Santhanam, who was present with him. Inspired by this vision, Sri Santhanam readily agreed to donate an initial portion of the land required for the construction of the Temple.
Sri Anna’s vision is now taking shape and all efforts are being launched to build a Temple for Viswaroopa Pachamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy measuring a height of 36 feet. This Temple complex once completed will also incorporate several charitable and philanthropic activities. Sri Anna, wanted to reassure himself before going ahead with the Temple Project, that it was in keeping with the “Divine Wish” for a Temple to be built on this land. Accordingly, he sought divine guidance, through Thiruvulacheetu from Lord Aadhivyadhihara Bhaktha Anjaneyaswamy, at Nanganallur near Chennai. To his great devotional delight he received a reply in the affirmative.
In July 1999, Sri Anna further sought the advice of Sri K.A. NARAYANA PODUVAL hailing from a family of experts in the art of Deva Prashnam. The Prashnam brought forth a flood of good news.
The Deva Prashnam proclaimed that in the years of yore, this site known as Panchavatee was inhabited by Rishis and Siddha Purushas perceiving Lord Anjaneya in the Panchamukha Swaroopam. The Prashnam envisioned that Lord Anjaneya would reveal Himself at this site as the Viswaroopa Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy and as a Varaprasadhi fulfilling all righteous Prayers and Wishes of his devotees.
Padmasri Muthiah Sthapathiar was the sculptor of the Viswaroopa Anjaneyaswami idol at Nanganallur. Sri Ramani Anna called upon him to Sculpt the Viswaroopa Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswami vigraham, for this project as well. The magnitude of this project can be gauged by the fact that a 36 feet majestic idol with 5 different faces, 10 hands and ornamentations and objects appropriate to each facet of the Lord’s grace had to evolve out of a single granite stone, that would have to be measuring over 40 feet in length.
Coincidentally, about the same time as Sri Sthapathiar was entrusted with this work, one Sri Perumal of Sirudamur reported to the Trust the existence in his land of a huge granite stone.
The Trustees rushed to his land and were thrilled to witness this piece of stone resembling a Great Being at Divine rest.
After appropriate prayers, this stone was excavated. It weighed 150 tons. With great effort and reverence, the stone was transported to Sri Sthapathiar’s Swarnam Silpa Kalaikoodam at Kelambakkam, near Mahabalipuram in February 2001.
Under the expertise of Sri Sthapathiar, the Vigraham was sculpted out of this stone at Kelambakkam. On 4th of June 2003 the vigraham was taken in a ceremonial procession via Pondicherry to the Temple site, 150 kilometres away accompanied by hundreds of devotees chanting “Rama Nama”. It was a memorable procession. The devotion witnessed en route was a sight for the gods.
The Project to construct a magnificent Temple for Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyswamy commenced on 24th June, 1999. It is a stupendous Project and has been evolving at its own pace as directed by Lord Anjaneya Himself. The Project evoked so much piety that it moved the famed Sri Unnikrishnan Panicker from Parappanangadi in Kerala to visit the site himself and conduct an Ashtamangala Deva Prashnam on the 18th and 19th of May 2002. This Prashnam conformed to all the earlier revelations on the Glory, Power, the benefaction and magnificence of the PANCHAMUKHA JAYAMANGALA SRI ANJANEYSWAMY at this holy Panchavatee Kshetram.
The Prashnam further revealed that all those associated with this Temple and who contribute to its construction and all its future activities would be uniquely fortunate. All of them and everyone known to them and their generations will remain blessed by Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy, for all time.
This Prashnam also forecast that this Kshetram would become internationally known as a centre of excellence for Devotional Learning and Research in addition to being a centre for restoration of health, mental well being and spiritual character.
The Prashnam envisaged that this Temple would help revive the traditional values of Indian heritage and Sanatana Dharma. This would be of universal application, not only to Indians wherever they may be living but also to all those who share in the permanence of these values for universal well being (Loka samastha sukhino bhavanthu).
The erudite will seek more and more details on specific subjects. Sri Anna, a staunch devotee and scholar on Hanumath Upaasana, was characteristically keen on gathering more and more information regarding Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy.
In this pursuit, he met Brahamasri Annadhaanam Chidambara Shastrigal, known for his outstanding research in ‘Hanumath Katha’. Sri Sastrigal revealed several other divine aspects of Sri Anjaneyaswamy such as
a. HIS JANMA DINAM or JAYANTHI - (Birth Day)
b. Moola Mantram for PANCHAMUKHA ANJANEYASWAMY
c. The festivals to be celebrated
d. The rituals to be followed
e. Favourite Prasadhams, fruits, flowers, etc.
The Jayamangala Panchamukha Anjaneyaswamy Temple at Panchavatee, is being managed strictly in accordance with these divine prescriptions.
Brahamasri Annadhaanam Chidambara Shastrigal also advised the style in which the Vigraham should be sculpted, the objects Lord Anjaneya should hold in his hands and also the manner in which the deity should be installed with Angadha and Sugriva as Dwarapalakas.
All these intricate details emanated out of his very careful search and research of several ancient vedic scriptures. Yet another interesting aspect of this research is that for Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya, a devotee should perform five namaskarams and five Pradhakshinams.
All deities in the HINDU PANTHEON are installed over a specially designed copper plate with special inscriptions known only to the Learned and Blessed few. This holy plate with inscriptions is known as the Yantram, in which powers specific to the deity are invoked.
Creating a Yantram for Viswaroopa Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswami required a very painstaking and thorough research. After careful consideration, Sri Ramadas Iyer of Anaithandavapuram and Sri G.S.Sundaresa Josier of Maruthuvakudi, both well versed in Yantra Shastra were entrusted with this Holy Task.
After considerable discussion, verification of various rare old scriptures and manuscripts on Yantra Shastra, by the Grace of Lord Sri Rama, a very special Panchamukha Hanumath Yantram was designed by Sri Ramdas Iyer and Sri Sunderesa Josier, in accordance with the Shastras.
The Prana Pratishta Pooja for the Yantram was done on 12th July 2000. Thereafter, with a view to obtain the Blessings of the Presiding Deities of the various holy temples and spiritual centres, the Panchamukha Sri Hanumath Yantram was ceremonially taken in pilgrimage to Tirupati, Tirumala, Ahobilam, Mahanandi, Srisailam, Talaikaveri, Sringeri, Udupi, Dharmasthala, Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam and 20 other sacred places.
Eminent Acharyas like Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam, Poojyasri Bharthi Theertha Swamigal, Sringeri Saratha Peetam Shankaracharya, Srimad Azhagiasingar of Sri Ahobila Matam, Sri Andavan Swamigal of Srirangam Andavan Ashram have offered their Blessings for the successful completion of this Temple Project and fulfillment of the avowed aims and objectives of the Trust.
The holy Prathista of Sri Panchamukha Hanumath Yantra took place between 10.30 am and 12 noon on Wednesday 11th June 2003 in the presence of Poojya Sri Muralidhara Swamigal. It was an eclectic and enthralling experience for over ten thousand devotees who had assembled in unparalleled devotion to witness the Prathista unmindful of the searing heat of the sun. Amongst them to receive the bounteous Blessings of Lord Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy were Dharmakalpataru Sri G.K. Ramamurthy of GKR Charities, Mumbai and Chennai and a number of distinguished notables from India and abroad.
This auspicious event had attracted unprecedented attention from the press, visual and electronic media from all over India and abroad. All the important TV channels had covered the celebration with fervour and the press had splashed the pictures taken on the occasion over several pages with excellent narrations.
Evidently, it was the Divine Wish of Lord Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy that He would grant His Magnificient Darshan to His ardent devotess over the Padma Peetam only with Arunodhaya next day Thursday (guruvaram). Hundreds of devotees had assembled around the Padma Peetam right through the night chanting RAM NAM.
Precisely as the sun touched the Eastern horizon, the Viswaroopa Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneyaswamy eternally enshrined Himself into the Padma Peetam with the sun’s rays touching every aspect of His Magnificent Form in an alluring, awe inspiring and ethereal orange brilliance.
The Engineers and Staff of India’s leading Engineering Enterprise M/s. Larsen & Toubro had done a marvellous job of transporting the Vigraham from Kelambakkam to Panchavatee and the installation of the Upa Peetam, Padma Peetam and the Moola Vigraham. They had worked night and day continously over several days without caring for food and rest - their minds and bodies focussed only on accomplishing their Holy Mission first time right. As one Press Correspondent titled it, it was a rare achievement of faith and technology fusing together.
The Prathishta on the 11th June 2003 was preceded by eleven-day series of Poojas and Homams commencing from Vigneswara Pooja on 31.5.2003.
The various rituals included are Surya Manthra Japam, Homam, Sri Rudhra Japam, Homam, Sri Samkshebaramayana Homam, Vaastu Homam, Maha Sudarshana Homam, Avahanti Homam, Sri Mahalakshmi Homam, Navagraha Homam, Sri Durga Homam - Sri Chandi Homam, Special Panchamukha Sri Hanumath Moola Mantra Japam and Homam.
Inaugurated by Brahmasri Ramani Anna, the Poojas and Homams were conducted by Brahmasri Dinakara Sharma assisted by Brahmasri Sundaresa Josyar and a host of Vidwans well versed in Vedas and A¯gama Sastras.
Poornahuti was performed everyday and the pooja culminated on 11 June 2003 with Moola Mantra Japa Homam, Archana and Mahapoornahuti. The evening poojas were followed by discourses on Ramayana. The Poojas, Homams and discourses were attended daily by hundreds, inspite of the isolated location of Panchavatee.
Since the Installation, thousands have been flocking to Panchavatee to receive the Grace and Blessings of Lord Jayamangala Panchamukha Sri Anjaneya Swamy.
Preceded by a five-day series of Homams, the first Hanumath Jayanthi was celebrated with great fervour on Tuesday 23rd Dec 2003. Over Twenty Thousand devotees Thronged Panchavatee on that day. The most spectacular event of that day was the Pushpa Vrushti Seva in the evening when over five hundred baskets of various fragrant flowers were showered over the Lord continuously for over two hour.
What was even more thrilling was the Swarna Pushpa Archana followed by Pushpa Vrushti performed on the night of 31st Dec 2003. The Maha Arati was precisely at Midnight witnessed by an incredible congregation of over fifty thousand devotees. Besides Pongal/Laddu, each devotee was presented with a Rupee coin from the Feet of the Lord.
The Hanumath Jayanthi celebrations were capped by a eleven-day Music festival with the Top Musicians of the World of Carnatic Music enthusiastically enthralling hundreds every day with their Music.
The Task ahead is the completion of the Temple Complex.
